Hello! Welcome to this week’s Marketing for Romance Writers 52-week Blog Challenge! Frankly, I’m a bit surprised you showed up with the topic of, Favorite Romance Genre to Read or Write. Because, hello, even if this is the first time you stumbled across my page there is a witch flying around here. Otherwise, my constant blather about magic may have given you a hint about my favorite. But it might surprise you to learn that I do read a little more than the fantasy and paranormal genre.
Good Writing Outdoes Genre
It’s true. Fantasy and paranormal are my absolute favorite genre to read or write. I’ve tried to write novels without fantasy and they seem lacking somehow. I read a book and I’m waiting for something out of the ordinary to happen. Therefore, it takes a really good story to hold my attention if it’s not in my favorite genre, but there are others that I enjoy reading.
Because if the #story is good enough, #genre doesn’t matter. Share on XI have favorite books that are suspense, horror, pure romance (aka: no paranormal), you name it. It would be easier to tell you what I don’t like to read. Although even then I might be challenged.
I used to think I had a few genres that I didn’t care for at all, like historical or erotica. Then…I read a good book or two in these genres, and realized there is always the exception. I’m a reader first, and an author second, which means I’m never without reading material. If I am, you’ll find me reading a magazine, a label, or any old thing laying around.
Read Out of Your Comfort Zone
Going outside my genre isn’t the norm for me. Like most people, I know what I like and I tend to gravitate toward that. As a writer, I realize the value in reading widely.
Plus, I enjoy reading books of authors I’ve come to know. I’ve also been in a Bookclub in the past in which the group chose the book—and it wasn’t always a book I’d pick. A few times I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It just shows the perks of opening your mind to other options.
It’s a Blog Hop!
Hop on around and meet some other authors to discover what they love to read or write. Perhaps you’ll pick up a new favorite, or try a new genre.
No matter what you read the important thing is that you do. Because a life without books and reading would be one of true deprivation.
Our attitudes aligned. It doesn’t matter what you read as long as you read.
