Welcome to this week’s Marketing for Romance Writers (#MFRW) 52-week Blog Challenge with the topic of, My Favorite Social Media Platforms. I’ve discussed this topic at length before, right here. So you might already know how much I like to hang out on my author Facebook page.
Although I haven’t discussed the additional perk to social media that keeps author introvert types like me from warping into one of those weirdos who spends long days alone just talking to their dog and characters in their head—hey, wait a minute…
Social Media Sanity
…Yep, that’s me and my introverted self loves every minute of it! But occasionally I grow tired of my own restless thoughts.
…Or Scruff refuses to allow me to ‘talk at him’ any longer (since he never answers back).
…Or he’s tired of me interrupting his nap and stalks off.
Then I go to my Facebook to confirm that there are other people out there in the world doing much more interesting things.
The challenge is not to get sucked into cyberspace and lose a huge chunk of time watching cute animal videos, or scouring recipes I'll never make. #MFRW #socialmedia Share on X
Plus, I get the bonus of ‘visiting’ with friends ad family without having to remove my Mom-bun or put on anything besides sweat pants.
Hanging with My Peeps
As much as I’d love to just hide out and write, I’ve already established that I could never survive on a desert island (right here) due to my lack of survival skills.
Therefore, any author will tell you that social media is a necessity to network with other authors and research stories. Plus we get the added bonus of getting to meet our readers.
So, you can find me on most social media sites, even though it seems as if new ones are popping up every day. Or the rules keep changing.
It’s discouraging that I might have something awesome to share with all my readers, yet Facebook doesn’t show that many of them my post.
Where’d That Facebook Page Go?
If you’ve already liked my Facebook page and haven’t noticed any of my posts in your newsfeed lately, there might be a reason for that. There are a few things you can do to make sure all the pages you like show up more often in your news feed.
- Hold your cursor over the “Following” button at the top of your favorite pages
- Make sure “See First” is checked in the drop-down menu.
- Make sure you never miss an update from your favorite pages.
- Also, interact with your favorite pages. The more you “Like” and comment & share the more you will see them in your Newsfeed!! And more people will see these posts as well. Works for your friends list too ♥
It’s a Blog Hop
Hop around in cyberspace and see where the other authors like to hang out.
See, that’s one of the benefits of social media. Where else could you meet so many people without having to put on real pants or fix your hair?
P.S. If you want to be sure not to miss out on any exciting things happening in my author world. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter right here.
My author page is a flop. I need to put effort into promoting it more. I’ll keep it since I need a ‘page’ to run ads and can’t just do it from a profile.
You’re so right about social media is a time suck.
I actually meet very few readers through social media. Perhaps they sense I’m a crabby person?
lol, I doubt that Holly.
